Introduction

Thank you for your interest in R&H Chrome Alloy Wear Parts!

It is always a pleasure to introduce our long wearing tillage tools and sprockets to an interested farmer. First, we should explain what they are, and why they have set the standard for wear throughout the industry.

R&H Parts are cast from a high chrome alloy. The chief characteristic of this alloy is its resistance to abrasive wear. As you know, the friction caused by dragging tillage tools through the ground at the speeds now possible with high-powered tractors causes the parts to become very hot--and to wear very fast. Chrome alloy has a built-in ability to withstand red heat, thus extending the life of tillage tools far beyond that of even hardfaced parts. It is the equivalent of having the parts made of solid hardfacing.

We began making these parts over thirty years ago, and, for a number of years, we marketed them chiefly in the Northwest. Because chrome alloy wears so long, it became evident that we were going to have to keep making new kinds of parts and/or marketing them in a much wider area. Today we ship ripper points, digger parts, planter shoes, tillage points, etc. all over the country, while we continue to introduce new parts based on our customers' requests.

Repeated tests have shown that when you multiply the price of a standard hardfaced part by the number of times our part outwore it, then divide the price of the R&H part, the standard ones cost a little over eight times as much as ours.

We know this may be hard for you to believe so we urge you to run a test on your own equipment in your particular soil conditions--put R&H parts in the wheel tracks, and run them against new standard ones of any make. After you have replaced the others several times, ours will be polished, but the original size. When you have tired of changing the standard ones, it will be time to call us for relief. R&H Chrome Alloy Ripper Points

Setting the standard for wear!

What makes R&H different?
  1. The "secret" of the wear built into R&H ripper points lies in the top plate of high chrome alloy. R&H uses the correct percentage of chrome to fit the job required of rippers. More chrome would result in breakage, and less would drastically reduce the wear.
  2. This plate is backed by a thick plate of T-1 steel for strength.
  3. The side plates are extended to form gussets, which add additional protection against bending.
  4. An indicator is provided to show where the tip of the shank is, to guard against damage to the shank.
  5. The chrome plate polishes to such a mirror smoothness that less horsepower is required to pull the ripper.
Why have different styles?
We make points to fit over a hundred different rippers from 3/4 inch to 4-1/4 inches. Our regular slip-on points are used for most purposes. Our finned rippers are used in areas where there is a need to split the slab of soil. The high penetration point was designed for areas where it is hard to get the point into the ground.

We also make shin guards to fit rippers with 1-inch to 3-inch shanks. These are made in three-inch lengths, and are made with a chrome plate on top and a steel backing so they can be welded as far up the shank as necessary.

The latest additition to our line is the point to fit the Tye-Paratil ripper. We recently added the shin guards to fit this particular ripper.

What about cost?

R&H points cost a little more initially than standard points, but due to the long wear, they are extremely economical. To prove this in your own operation, we ask you to test them in the lead position and in the wheel tracks, and to run them against any other point. Keep checking our point after you have worn out the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth standard points. Remember, it is not worn out until the wear reaches the indicator on the gusset.

Incorpororating Shovels

R&H Chrome Alloy Cultivator Points Save
Downtime and Replacement Costs

Save Costly Downtime
Stopping to change points halfway through a job can be very expensive.
Save Replacement Costs
R&H points and shovels to fit the S-Tine shanks and cultivators have outworn standard or hardfaced points by as much as seventeen times. On a test run in very abrasive soil near Hanford, California, the standard hardfaced incorporating shovel wore out in 150 acres. The R&H shovel still looked like new, yet it had run 2500 acres. R&H's point cost $12.15, the hardfaced point cost $5.35, and would have to be replaced seventeen times in 2500 acres (17 x $5.35 = $90.95). And that doesn't include 16 extra bolts or the downtime necessary to change points that many times!
Hex Nut Design
The hex head bolts used by R&H are counter-sunk to insure easy replacement--and hex bolts are readily available!

Fit S-Tine Harrows and Most Makes of Cultivators

Triple K, S-tine, Danish Harrow, Calkins, JD, Glencoe, Krause, Wilrich, Brady, Versatile, Moline, Acme, Strathmore, Domries, Allis-Chalmers, and others.
